I’m so happy you’re here.
I’m Marissa, a Hawaiʻi-based communications professional and writer.
My journalism work focuses on wildlife conservation, specifically mammals and apex predators, with additional focus on human-wildlife conflicts and solutions. I’m drawn to stories that sit at the intersection of science and lived experience.
My inspiration and perspective are shaped by personal experiences in the ocean and the backcountry, as well as by one-on-one conversations with experts and people from various backgrounds. I consider myself a lifelong student of wild places and an advocate for public lands, guided by a commitment to stewardship, education and integrity in the outdoors.
I also have a decade-long communications career and specialize in travel PR, brand editorial and cross-channel storytelling.
Originally from the East Coast, I consider home wherever I am alongside my husband and our two German Shepherds. I love the mix of fresh air and physical movement — from surfing, running and hiking, to practicing yoga and going on backpacking trips.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Vermont and am a certified Wilderness First Responder and Therapy Dog Handler.
